“Good
Morning”
“Good morning,
Sunshine,” are words many parents say to their children as they sleepily wipe
their eyes when first awakened. Mornings can bring many delightful prospects
to countless people, and for those who have experienced God throughout their
life of faith, it’s a brand new day. It’s light out of the darkness. It’s
new hope brightened by the dawns early light. It’s a fresh renewing of faith
each day. It’s a special kind of warmth that only comes from the sun (and
from God’s Son too).
Morning means yesterday
is gone. Most look forward to a new day, relishing yesterday’s
accomplishments, while relinquishing today into God’s control. After a good
night of peaceful sleep, we should be fully rested, and therefore prepared to
meet the new day.
“Awake, awake! Clothe
yourself with strength, O arm of the Lord”
(Isaiah 51:9).
“In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests
before you and wait in expectation”
(Psalm 5:3).
“But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love;
for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble”
(Psalm 59:16).
“The morning is the gate of the day, and should be well guarded
with prayer. It is one end of the thread on which the day’s actions are
strung, and should be well knotted with devotion. If we felt more of the
majesty of life, we should be more careful of its mornings. He who rushes
from his bed to his business and without worship is as foolish as though he
had not put on his clothes, or washed his face, and unwise as though he
dashed into battle without arms or armor.”
(Charles Haddon Spurgeon)
There is not one of us who would enter into battle without
armor. Nor should any of us go off to work or school (or a motorsports
event) without washing our face and checking ourselves out in the mirror.
But many of us rush into our day without taking time to look into the mirror
of God and His Word.
Each day holds circumstances that will be better addressed if
we’ve hedged our day with prayer, devotion, and time alone with God before we
set foot out the door. Let’s look ourselves over; then put on Christ as we
would put on our clothes. Let’s seize the day in prayer knowing that your
prayers invite God to walk through your day with you.
A life hemmed in prayer is less unlikely to unravel if we sow the
Word in the good fabric of a Spirit filled heart each morning. Have a good
day my friends…says the Almighty! I hope to see you again in the morning.
