“The Bright
Morning Star”
It was the end of the 2009 NHRA dragrace season and we were on our way home
after three weeks on the west coast. Even though we were still in Barstow,
CA, we set our clocks forward to try to ease back into the Central Time
Zone. At 6:00 a.m. (4:00 o’clock Pacific Time …Youch!) we headed east on
I-40. We were anxious to get home.
As we
settled in for the long drive ahead of us, we were astounded by the most
beautiful, brilliant morning star straight ahead. It flickered and outshined
all the others, but the most amazing thing was it was in the shape of a
slanted cross.
Larry
and I had a long time to marvel at our star as the horizon began to lighten.
We were wondering; how many people over the centuries have used this star
to guide them in the right direction?
The sun
eventually came up, and the “Bright Morning Star” was no longer visible,
but we
knew it
was still there.
Sure enough, there it was the next morning putting on its wonderful show,
reminding us of God’s presence and guidance.
My
thoughts went back about 20 years to a time when I felt lost and depressed.
I shut the bathroom door and got in the shower hoping for a little peace. My
Pomeranian, “Cutie,” began to whine and cry outside my door with great
drama. I pleaded, “Cutie! Just because you can’t see me, doesn’t mean
I’m not here!”
At that
moment, God whispered, “Do you hear what you just said?” I stood
there and wept as reassurance washed over me. I thanked God for being there
even when I couldn’t see or feel Him.
Even
though it’s been a long time since that happened, I found myself shedding a
few tears of gratitude for my “Bright and Shining Morning Star,” Jesus
Christ. He has guided me moment by moment, day by day, year by year to a
fulfilled and challenging life with Him.
I
challenge myself and you in this season of stars and lights to thank our
“Bright Morning Star,” Jesus Christ, who guides us. Even when we can’t
see Him, He is always there.
