Don't Let Your Fire Go Out
Have you ever been around a camp fire, or even a fire in your fireplace, and
watch it become dim? Usually you stir the wood or add wood to the fire.
Has your excitement about serving the Lord diminished? Or has your
enthusiasm drifted and your fire is fading? Maturing in Christ should cause
the flame of your faith to become stronger, not weaker.
Paul encouraged Timothy to fan the flame of his devotion for God (2 Tim
1:1-11). When Timothy was discouraged and was facing difficult
circumstances, Paul gave him the necessary encouragement to restart his
desire to serve God.
A
Christian's faith can be doused suddenly by devastating circumstances, or it
can dwindle gradually through a loss of interest in spiritual things.
To overcome the sudden lack of interest and recover your fire before it goes
out we must first recognize our condition. How did you spend your time when
you were passionate for God? Refocus your attention on the Lord. Read the
Word of God. Seek daily prayer. God loves to have an intimate relationship
with us. Get involved with someone else's life. Sometimes our own problems
will consume us and we concentrate on only our own problems. Most important
we must rely on the Holy Spirit to enable us to have a burning desire to
serve.
It's never too late to get your fire for God stirred up even if they have
dwindled to cold ashes. Stir up the embers of your faith. Allow the Lord to
make you a bright light and a flame for His glory.
