A Person of Faith Acts…
“Regarding the debate about faith and works:
It’s like asking which blade in a pair of scissors is most important.” (C.S.
Lewis, 1898 – 1963).
This is a very thought provoking statement.
One of the best things about being a
Christian is having the opportunity to share your faith with Christians and
non-Christians alike. Think of it as your love for the Lord. Do you not
enjoy sharing things you love with others? If you are like me, anytime
someone asks about my car (and even if they don’t ask), I am always willing
to tell them why it has a big wing and pointy nose on it.
The way we share, by doing the works that we
do, must be reflective of our faith. Our faith, our love for the Lord, can
only be shared with others through our works and actions during our short
time here on Earth. This is the only time we have to share this love with
others, and possibly the only chance we have to lead them to eternal
salvation. As Glenn Kreider told me once, “Many will be led to Heaven, but
few will be driven there.”
The Bible, in James 2:14 (NLT) says, “What
good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t
show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?” And verse 24
is, “So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by
faith alone.”
If this isn’t enough evidence that our
faith-based good works are incredibly important, consider how author Edmund
Burke put it, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good
men to do nothing”.
