Keeping it Safe
Within the past few months, I have had discussions with quite a few people
over the rules in the rulebook. One was with a fellow who is building a
Super Gas car. I went over most of the rules that apply to his class. He had
so many questions that I asked why he didn’t just ask the tech guys at his
local track for information. He informed me that they don’t have tech at his
track. I couldn’t believe my ears, so I went with him to the track that
Saturday. Sure enough, they didn’t tech the cars.
I expected to find a lot of junk running, but that was not the case. Many of
the people who were competing also run at National event tracks so they are
current with their tech. Still, there are a lot of people like my friend who
don’t go to the bigger tracks and so those cars will have the appearance of
being safe until you take a closer look. This is where all the questions
start, such as, “What does that have to do with safety?” Sometimes it is more
of a statement than a question, “It’s only a bracket race so it doesn’t
matter!” Some think that by speaking loudly to me they can change my
thinking on tech.
I don’t know all of the answers. Yet I do know that if it’s in print that is
what I need to go by. Not all of the rules are about safety though. Some
are there so that one racer does not get an unfair advantage over another in
the same class. As far as only being a bracket race…people can still get
hurt or killed at bracket races, and it’s never right to cheat just so you
can run your number no matter what.
It is the same situation when I share the Gospel with someone. They may have
some questions that I cannot answer, but that does not change the fact that
the truth is still the truth. There is only one way to get to heaven and
that is through Jesus Christ. The Bible is clear on this: “Jesus saith unto
him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me.” (John 14:6) “It’s not by works of righteousness which we have
done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration,
and renewing of the Holy Spirit.” (Titus 3:5) “For by grace are ye saved
through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of
works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Rule books have a purpose for both safety and no unfair advantages. Often,
rules are changed because someone has given their life or been severally
injured; their sacrifice benefits others.
The Bible is the greatest book of all time. Not only does it give us the
rules for life, but how to live a abundant and winning life, the eternal life
that is given to us because of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. Trust
him. Don’t fight the rules, but follow them for your safety and your life.
