Give it a Try, You Just Might Be Surprised

Have you ever been around someone who always seems happy?  You know what I mean don’t you?  They kick the rods out of the motor or trash the transmission and they just blow it off like it is nothing.  It makes you wonder if they have been sniffing too many nitro fumes!

What could be more frustrating than having to take out and replace the same part several times at one race?  For most of us that would breed discontent.  The other day I witnessed what could be one of those stories that would float to the top of the “Worst Day at the Races” contest.  Eric is a local racer who has a really cool altered that runs a big block through an automatic transmission.  During time trials he pulled out the transmission not one or two times, but seven times before he finally found the problem.  Now for most of us that would probably make us not the friendliest person to be around.  But Eric was not even fazed.  After fighting with the transmission all day he was still smiling and having fun.  How could that be?

It made me start to think through what makes a day a good one or a bad one.  Could it be more than just what happens during the day?  I believe that what happens to us in a day has less of an impact on us than our own attitude does.  We make choices in life that affects our attitude.  If we get up and think we are going to have a bad day, then we probably will.  So how can we get through the tough things in life and not be miserable to be around?

Let me offer a few suggestions.  Decide to practice patience.  There are many inconveniences in life and when we patiently wait or persevere is when we can move past these things in a positive way.  Show kindness in all things.  Kindness kills the feelings that make us unhappy, such as anger or envy.  Be faithful in all aspects of your life; faithful in business and in relationships.  This will bring you trust and respect.  Getting up everyday and having a positive outlook, even if you do kick the rods out, will change your life.  Give it a try!
