Not Being Tried By One’s Peers
I’m here in Jury Duty, sitting
in the assembly room, and I have nothing to do but wait to be called. I
brought a magazine version of the Bible’s New Testament called, “Align.” It
is very easy to read, and contains many helpful tips and short stories that
help relate the New Testament to life in today’s world.
While reading “Align,” I
couldn’t help but compare and contrast Jury Duty with the Lord.
When you have done something
wrong and are being tried by a jury, your peers decide your fate and
punishment, versus when you have done something wrong in God’s eyes, you
decide your fate by asking for the Lord’s forgiveness and the Lord clears you
of all unrighteousness. This is provided that you profess the simple truth
that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior.
Consider how this relates to
our car habit as well. When working on your car, you perform the restoration
through to its completion, versus restoring “you” where the Lord performs
your soul’s completion!
It’s common to hear people say
that the world is going the wrong way lately. Unfortunately this is not
new. In Acts 2:40, Peter warns and begs the crowd, “Save yourselves from the
evil of today’s people!” Peter is saying that you can decide to save
yourself. All you have to do is decide to turn to Christ.
