Freedom in Christ
When faced with
challenges in life, do you feel bound or free? Do you struggle and fight
against your challenges or do you let go and trust God? Do you ever feel
bound by life’s challenges? Do you feel like there is a piece of string
wrapped around your finger that keeps getting tighter and tighter as you
struggle to break free?
When problems
arise, we often try to tackle them. We get angry; we fight. We pull away from
our friends and family. We pull away from God. We try to fix the problem on
our own.
Imagine that
your current struggles are a finger trap. A
finger trap is a simple puzzle that traps your fingers in both ends of a
small, woven bamboo cylinder.
You place one finger from your left
hand inside the finger trap and one finger from your right hand inside. Your
fingers are now trapped. What is your first reaction? Do you pull away trying
to forcibly remove the finger trap? By struggling, you will only cause the
finger trap to tighten. The only way to free your fingers from the finger
trap is to stop struggling and pull close together.
Do not let
yourself be bound by life’s challenges.
“It is for
freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let
yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1, NIV)
Are you pulling
away from God because of a struggle that has been tossed your way? Don’t pull
away from God; pull close to God and release your struggles to Him in order
to have peace.
"I have told
you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will
have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33, NIV)
We will always
have troubles. In fact, you may be struggling to keep your head up now, but
remember - you are FREE!
“So if the Son
sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36, NIV)
We have FREEDOM
in CHRIST: freedom to trust Him with even our most difficult struggles and
innermost turmoil. Do not bind yourself with worry, fear, and doubt; instead,
be free.
