As NHRA's official chaplain, I lose count of how many disgusted looks and disapproving expressions
I receive from people who obviously think I have some inside track on the weather. So to those who
have bequeathed me with divine control over the elements of nature, may I please emphasize a very
important and fundamental statement of fact: I don't do weather!
I don't think I have a contract with NHRA regarding my duties as chaplain, but I often fear that some
may think that controlling weather and other various meteorological phenomena is included some-
where in the fine print.
Theologians have known for centuries that there is a natural cause and effect-relationship taught in
the scriptures between the moral condition of society and the natural consequences that it endures as
a result. Furthermore, the Bible predicts that as our moral values decline on a worldwide basis, society
will see an increase in many of the natural disasters which come as a result of the consequences of evil
(rather than what some people view as unjust and cruel decisions by God). In other words, the moral
always affects the physical.
Let's discuss a very relevant example: earthquakes. One of the major signs Jesus predicted would increase
in frequency and intensity shortly before the end of time (as we know it) is earthquakes.
Let's examine the number of "killer" quakes recorded in the world during recent decades (a killer quake
being one with a magnitude of 6.0 or greater). During the 1920's there were 2. During the 30's there were
5. During the 40's there were 4. During the 50's there were 9. During the 60's there were 13. During the
70's there were 51. During the 80's there were 86. And less than half way through the decade of the 90's,
there were more than 100 earthquakes recorded in the world with a magnitude of 6.0 or greater.
Interesting, yes?
Now consider this. If you were to plot a graph of those same decades, and you were to superimpose over
that graph of killer quakes another graph showing the moral decline that has also taken place in our world,
do you think there might be some similarity? Bingo.
While I apologize for not being able to eliminate rain in this world, I make no apology for the increase in
apocalyptic signs and wonders concerning end times. After all, I've read the back of the Book.
Our team wins!
