Timing…
Mike’s timing:
It’s driving us crazy.
Our new altered fired up on
the fist spin and ran perfectly. The first run down the quarter mile was a
flawless, straight as an arrow high 8-second run. And that was with the little
mule motor. Right outta the box…man we got this thing handled! Done deal, wired!
As
the warmer weather moved into southern Virginia (with its relentless humidity)
times fell off. We blamed it on the weather. Man, just wait till the autumn
rolls in. We’ll show ‘em who builds strong engines 12 ways! Well, temps are now
in the 60’s and the car is still off by about four tenths of a second. Four
tenths…it’s killin’ me. My reputation as a motor builder extraordinaire is on
the line. (I think it’s called foolish pride, Mike)
God’s
Timing:
There they were on the road to Emmaus. Jesus followers. Depressed and lost. They
all thought it but didn’t want to say it. The messiah who promised he could save
mankind could not save himself. All of their dreams were shattered. Now what?
And then the risen Jesus appeared before their eyes. Thomas doubted the most but
in their hearts they all were skeptical. Until they saw (and even touched) the
nail holes still in His hands. Yesss, Halleluiah!
Now he explained all of scripture. Wow, we’ve got to run back to Jerusalem and
tell everyone! No, He said, “tell no one”. Are you kidding me? The greatest
event in human history and we can’t even speak about it! Again…“tell no one”. No
reason, no explanation.
(My ways are not your ways…remember?)
About 10 days later the festival of Shavuit took place. It was one of the holy
days that every Jewish man was required to attend to remain in good standing.
The Greeks called it “the fifty” because it took place on the day that Moses was
said to receive the Ten Commandments from God. (Fifty days after the exodus).
A
five pointed star is still called a penta-star. The five sided building
is called the Penta-gon, the holiday would latter be called “Penta-cost”.
Because of the holiday the population of Jerusalem swelled to over a million. At
this time the Holy Spirit came over the Apostles and they spoke in “languages
not their own”. In other words, the languages of all of the Jewish men making
this pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The Bible tells us that over 3000 accepted
Christ that day. These men went back to their homeland and became Christ’s first
missionaries. Now I understand why God asked those on the road to Emmaus to
wait.
As
usual, God saves his very best for those who leave the timing to Him.
Now about that crummy 4 tenths…pretty insignificant, huh?
Godspeed,
