“Believer’s Digest”

Jesus’ hunger and desire for us was over-and-above what we were going to consume. He said in John 4:34, “My food, is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” He fully understood that life is sustained through ingested nourishment, but He also knew there’s more to life than feeding physical hunger. God designed and called us to serve others. We’re simply to be breadlines of blessings and benefit, by carrying nourishment to a hungry and needy world.

The next time you are at a drag race, see how many fans stand around waiting and hoping to see a crewman pour the nitromethane into the fuel tank of a Top Fuel Dragster. If anyone happens to be watching when the fuel is being mixed, and then poured into the tank, are they showing their excitement by hootin’, hollerin’, and cheering while this task is being performed? Not hardly! Most likely, 99% of them could care less about this process.

But, most drag racing fans do get extremely excited when the engine is started and the nitro is pumped from the tank into the motor. Something happens when this mysterious fuel gets inside of an engine and is sparked to explode in the combustion chambers. A character change takes place with the fuel, as it is transformed from a cool yellow liquid into a volatile fire-belching monster. An old racing proverb says, “With God all things are possible … but with nitro anything is possible.”

This exciting change is seen, smelled, heard, and even tasted by everyone with in a rocks throw. This is what turns on the multitude of fans that love championship drag racing. The fuel is different coming out than when it went in. An impressive character change has taken place.

I honestly believe God reacts in the same way with us. When His Word, wisdom, knowledge and principles are poured into His people, it’s okay with Him-He likes it. But He leans back and says, this is fine for now, but something different must happen to change the character of the person who digests My fuel.

When a change of character-Christ-likeness in a believer’s life takes place-that’s what God is really looking for. When the fuel that a believer has digested begins flowing out of him or her, and is seen (our witness), and smelled (a loving servants heart), and heard (sharing with others), and tasted (evidence of a changed life) by others, then, that is when God Himself gets excited.

His fuel is designed to cause a character change in the lives of all believers. That true life-change-not what goes in, but the evidence of what comes out-is what will attract others to Christianity. Are you ready for 90% nitro in your tank?
