We’re
All Waiting To Die
We’re all
waiting to die. This is a very basic but true statement, but the vast
majority of people are too busy with the concerns and various pleasures of
this present life to adjust their priorities to this fact. We are going to
die; we just don’t know when or how. We all have a terminal disease in a
corruptible body that is dying moment by moment.
Pondering such thoughts might seem morbid to some, but that accusation is far
from true. The truth is that we are talking about living in light of
eternity, which is a major spiritual advantage. So we must set our minds on
the things above, not on the things of this earth.
We must establish our earthly priorities below where the majority of people
place them. We are going to exist forever in God’s paradise kingdom or
eternal damnation. Everything we own is temporary, even though it might
outlast us. Once we take our last breath and our spirit departs our body
(James
2:26), we are leaving everything behind—the good as well as the
bad.
The degrees, trophies, awards, exalted job position, and hobbies for which
you have spent much money and years to achieve are all temporary in view of
eternity. Therefore, a drastic important change is needed to discover what
God wants so we can do it. Your time, money, spiritual gifts, etc. have been
given to you for the building of God’s kingdom. Now is the time to live
unashamedly and faithfully for the Lord Jesus.
We must be bold as well as wise in sharing our faith. We must be aggressive
as well as discreet. We must be strong as well as tender. For the sake of
others whom we influence, we must model the joy with which we await our
eternity with Christ. Our most faithful witness is never the words we speak
but the life we live. It worked for Jesus. It worked for the New Testament
Church. And it still works for us today.
