Have you ever studied an infant just a few weeks old? They will tend to squeeze their eyes shut, clench their fists, and tighten their tiny bodies. And yes, whimpers and cries are part of the equation as well.
Think of it from their perspective. They’ve spent months in the womb and had grown pretty accustomed to that environment. It felt warm, safe, familiar, and comfortable. And now it’s bright, loud, noisy, unfamiliar, and not always comfortable.
The infant, if they had more highly developed reasoning powers, would probably yearn for the past. And, they likely would have resisted any change.
Yet those of us “grown ups” look at this little baby and are excited about what lays before her. All the potential. All the opportunity. All the joy that we have when we live life to its fullest.
Some people approach the end of their lives as though they are a baby in a womb. They perceive life as warm, safe, familiar, and comfortable. And they strongly resist any change.
But those of us who have salvation through Christ can be excited about what lays before us. All the potential of eternal life with Jesus. All the opportunity to praise God forever. All the joy that we have to celebrate with the Holy Spirit to the fullest.
