Priorities

There’s a chorus in a song by ‘Casting Crowns’ that goes;

     “I am a flower quickly fading, here today and gone tomorrow
      A wave tossed in the ocean, a vapor in the wind
      Still You hear me when I’m calling
      Lord, You catch me when I’m falling
      And You’ve told me who I am. I am Yours.”
If I am His, what am I doing with my life to show it? What are you doing with yours? As I get older I’m becoming more aware of just how short my earthly life is. I regret all the time I’ve spent chasing after things that have no eternal value. I didn’t listen to God for His direction in my life – I was too busy living it for myself. Many times we pursue things that aren’t bad in themselves – until we put them before God. Just before he died, J. D. Rockefeller said, “I’ve made billions but not one of those dollars has brought me happiness.” I wonder what ranked first on his life’s priority list?

Jeremiah 9:23-24a says, “…Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me.” What do you want people to admire most about you? Your education (wisdom)? Your physical body or abilities (strength)? Your possessions (riches)? Your relationship with God? I’ve heard it said, if we live for this world, this is all we get; if we live for the next world, we gain them both. Remember, God is not satisfied with getting the leftovers of our time, love and money. He’s not content to be second best – He wants to be number one. Where does He fit in on your priority list?
