In This Very Place…
As I serve in my role with Team RFC, I am blessed to be able to use the administrative and organizational gifts that God has given me. This means that, unlike the decades of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, I’m usually in an office and rarely at a racetrack. Yet, every now and then, I have the honor of representing Team RFC at a competition venue.
One of those times was last Saturday night. One of our chaplains had a conflict; he was performing a wedding, could I bring the invocation at the local half-mile dirt track just before the National Anthem? Absolutely!
After praying, in part, for an evening of safety, sportsmanship, and celebration of the spirit of competition, I closed with this thought, “And may each of us, competitor or crewman, spectator or track worker, be aware of Your presence in this place.”
After the trophy dashes one of the pit stewards approached me. “Thanks for your prayer tonight. We need more of that here. You really got me to thinking. I usually think of God being in church but…here at the track?”
All that it takes for God to be someplace is for someone to open their heart to Him. He will reside there. It is that simple; it is that easy. Yes, even at the racetrack.
If you would like to talk to someone about how to open your heart to begin a relationship with God through his son, Jesus Christ, call 1-888-NEEDHIM.
