How does the Lord interact with you in
your daily life? The other day he taught me how about proper dryer
maintenance and fire prevention!
We had just put the kids to bed and I
wanted to rotate a load of laundry really quickly before I went out to
the garage to work on a project car. After I put the wet clothes in
the dryer, I pulled the lint trap out of the top and, out of nowhere, a
toothbrush falls down the hole. I was stumped by, first of all, why
was a toothbrush even in the laundry room on top of the dryer, and why
did it have to fall down the hole like that? I tried to start the
dryer but it quickly jammed up and shut down.
I gathered some tools and opened the
top of the dryer, but can’t see anything, I open the front up but still
can’t find it, I pull the drum out but that didn’t help. I pulled the
dryer away from the wall and removed the cover off the back, but I
still can’t get at it. Finally, I unbolt the duct that the lint trap
goes down into and I find the toothbrush jammed into a blower. I also
find that this duct is severely clogged with lint, to the point where
I’m sure the dryer was having a difficult time functioning properly;
and it’s not hard to see how this could cause a fire!
We clean the lint trap every load, so
I was very surprised to find it this badly clogged. The dryer is about
10 years old and I doubt this duct has ever been taken apart. I have
since learned that there is an attachment for your vacuum that will
clean way down in the lint trap. (I suggest you all get one of these
and use it regularly.)
So what’s the point of all of this? I
believe that everything happens for a reason. The reason a toothbrush
fell into my dryer may have been the Lord keeping us safe, and keeping
you safe as well, because hopefully you will go and clean out your
dryer if you have had it for a while. It also illustrates how the Lord
works, and cares for us, in mysterious ways. And who knows, maybe
something was going to happen in my garage that night that He kept me
from? Because by the time I had the dryer working again, it was
midnight, so I never did work on the car that day.
As Proverbs 3:5 tells us, “Trust in
the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own
understanding.”
