June Update

We often use the phrase “a blessed event” and follow that phrase with statistics such as born on Sunday, the 29th, weighing 9lbs. 4oz., and measuring 21.25 inches long.  We all know what we’re talking about and know what these references mean.

When I heard this recently, I was thinking of all the parents have to look forward to: the joys and heartaches of watching the young boy grow. There will be times that they will be so proud of the achievements he will make, and those times when he will suffer (they will, too) and not be able to do anything to make things right.  But we all will join in prayer with them in those times to help lift them up.

Then I thought about how we, as the children of God, are the same in our Father’s sight.  What joy He must have when we grow in our spiritual life, and how sad He must be when we do things against His will.  Yet this is a time of rejoicing as many do grow in their spiritual lives.  I know how proud I am of them, but even more how much God the Father must be as He sees His children walking in the truth.

In Hebrews 12:1 it says: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”

Verse two continues: “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”  God the Father allowed Jesus the Son to come that He might die for us.  What sorrow it must have brought to Him…to watch His Son die on a cross for our sins, wanting to help, and yet knowing that He could not take away the price needing to be paid for our salvation.  What outstanding LOVE He has for us; let us show our love for Him.
