“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31.
Last week we talked about waiting, the difficulty of waiting, how impatiently most of us wait, and how God would like for us to wait. I mentioned that there are rewards for waiting.
When we wait, we discover God’s will and purpose in whatever we’re concerned about. “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.” (Lamentations 3:25)
When we wait, we receive supernatural physical energy and strength. “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall; but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:29-31)
Another reward when we wait is we win battles. “The Lord favors those who fear Him those who wait for His loving kindness.” (Psalm 147:11) How encouraging to know that the Lord favors us and is on our side.
When we wait, we receive answers to our prayers. “I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry.” (Psalm 40:1) God knows just the right timing for answering our prayers.
When we wait, we see the fulfillment of our faith. “They shall not be ashamed who wait for Me” (Isaiah 49:23). God will not let us down.
When we wait, we see God working in our behalf. “Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.” (Isaiah 64:4) That’s a great promise. While we actively wait, He actively works.
With all the rewards of waiting, why do we rush ahead as if we don’t believe our God is able? We need to hit the pause button in our lives and “be still and wait” for God. God will amaze us at what He is doing while we expect His surprises.
