Have you ever come to a crossroad in life? Many issues in life are clearly spelled out for us in the Bible. The correct path for living is indeed ancient, and has been marked out by God. People in Jeremiah’s time refused to take God’s path, going their own way instead. This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, `We will not walk in it.' (Jeremiah 6:16)
Don’t be mislead, the only way to find “peace and rest for your soul” is to walk on God’s path. This verse may be of help in times of decision. The ancient paths are those God has had in place since time began. We can then move from specific circumstances to principles to solve the problem.
The Psalmist (32:8) informs us how God leads; “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.” This verse offers direction from above—where Christ is seated at the right hand of God—for making a decision at a crossroad in life.
When we think of God’s past provisions, His present faithfulness, and His future promises, whether God’s answer is yes, no, or wait, He will none-the-less direct us. While we’re waiting, it’s good to fine-tune our “spiritual hearing aid” so that we recognize His voice.
God’s directions never contradict His laws and teaching. Yet, His answer is often opposite of what we might choose to do. Our Joy comes as we follow His leading. Our obedience is a great way to show that we love God and believe His Word. Therefore, joyful obedience is the best.
