It is more than the Christian lifestyle Christ has led me to
As I listen to all of the remembrances of Ronald Reagan, I do not hear nearly as much about his victories (Berlin wall coming down) or his defeats (Iran-Contra weapons scandal) as I do about the personality, the character of the man. I don't think they are just being nice at the time of his passing. I think they are talking about his most memorable, long lasting qualities. I hear things like:
"He was a gentleman,"
"He absolutely adored his wife,"
"He was a man of great compassion."
(Author) Rick Warren was right...The greatest legacy a man can leave behind is the example of a life well lived.
That is the direction the Christian lifestyle leads me. I am not doing it as well as I could. I slip and overreact. But if it were not for Christ I would be continuing down a road where compassion is viewed as a sign of weakness. The emotionless "pragmatic" road of the business world. The wrong road.
I hear a lot of talk about Reagan's life, his accomplishments, what he achieved. But it is all about his past. I do not hear anything about his future. Reagan was a man of God. He was not ashamed of it. He talked about a "Shining City on the hill," Many do not understand the hidden meaning of that phrase...Today he is in that "Shining City."
