The quality of an engine rebuild is largely dependant on the tools used to complete the job. An engine ‘rebuilt’ with a flex hone, ridge reamer and wire brush is probably not going to be as close to original tolerances as an engine built with state of the engine machining equipment.
Another important component of an engine rebuild is the experience and skill of the technician. There is a learning curve involved in machining and assembling engines. Diligent study in the ‘School of Hard Knocks’ often gives the technician an extra measure of quality.
Buy even a good technician, working with good tooling, is still dependent on the condition of the parts he is working with. The best boring machine in the world can’t help a block that is already bored to the maximum oversize.
My cylinder head remanufacturing shop is called Regent Industries, Inc. I was thinking of my grandmother’s favorite word when I named the shop: regeneration. The old has passed away – the new has come.
This is the foundation of the Christian faith and the work of the cross. I was crucified with Christ. I died. Now Christ lives in me. Jesus replaced my ‘old and worn out’ life – just as the technician will have to replace that old, oversize block. The difference is that He has given me a ‘new and improved’ life that far exceeds the old design.
