Process or Place?
“If you’re going through hell, keep going!”
A while back I saw this simple phrase on a calendar in my office and it got
my attention. Now, I know that the literal Hell is a destination that I pray
each of you avoids. But I think what the author really meant was that in
life we all must face tough times. All too frequently, people will say, “I’m
going through hell,” and we know exactly what they mean because we have all
been there. That has been a part of the human condition since Adam, a place
that we all experience, part of the process of living.
And it remains part of the process, unless
we stay in that place. The place of depression, of doldrums, and of
overwhelming negative gloom. How can you assure yourself that those
inevitable low spots in life remain part of the process and don’t become a
place where you get stuck? The answer is in a relationship with Jesus
Christ. After all, Jesus certainly didn’t have it easy here on earth either,
and now he sits at the right hand of the Father, waiting for us to join him.
