Showing the Light!

Mathew 5:14-16: "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Nothing I hate more than a blown light bulb!  It is such a pain to go into a dark room and try to change it.  I had one blow the other day and I didn’t have any at the house…so I went the store to get one.  While at the store I noticed there was about gazillion types of bulbs.  Every bulb has its own purpose.  No two are the same or have the same use.  You can’t use a night light bulb in a table lamp or a florescence bulb as a floodlight.

As the verse talks about, we’re to be a light in the world.  Just as there are many types of light bulbs there are many types of “light bulb” people if you will.  Some are flashlights that light up a particular area.  Some are table lamp lighting up a small room.  Some are a florescent light lighting up an office.  Some are a flood light lighting up a stadium for 60,000 people.

Just as each light has its own purpose, we each have our own purpose in life through Christ.  We would not use a flashlight to try and light up a stadium or a floodlight in our living room.  Also the thing to remember is this…while each light has its own purpose no light is more important than the other.  It’s only used in its own application.

We should be as Christians more like light bulbs.  First we should shine our light!  We use the lights in our house to light up the rooms so we shouldn’t hide the light God has given us to shine.  Shine and shine brightly!  Second we need to shine where we fit.  If God has called you to be a “flashlight” then be a good one!  If He has called you to be a “floodlight” then be a good one also!  We get so caught up in doing things we can’t or shouldn’t that we forget to do the things we can do.

Go out and shine you light and shine where you fit!  Let God do the rest!
