Dads and Sons:
I doubt that it has ever been easy for dads to talk to their sons. Oh, not necessarilygeneral conversation. And especially not about “action-oriented” subjects, be theywork, school, sports, and so on. But personal things, emotional things, spiritual things…well, that’s another story.I recently read the verses below where Kind David, the father, is having one of thosepersonal, emotional, spiritual discussions with son Solomon.1 Kings 2:1-3When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. "I am about to go the way of all the earth," he said. "So be strong, show yourself a man,and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decreesand commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.”(from New International Version)My father was a Christian my entire life, but I never received an encouraging and instructive talk such as this. Possibly this world would be less chaotic if more dads shared these thoughts. Now ladies, I don’t mean to leave you out, and there is certainly application for you here. But if you are a guy, and you have a son, be they a child or an adult, ponder these things. It may be time to communicate on a different level.
