The Wrong
Type of “Thick Skin!”
The
other day I had to escape the office for a while. I went to the shop and spent
the day rebuilding an engine. My hands became sore, they are no longer covered
by the heavy calluses that they had when I did that kind of work every day. The
calluses formed naturally over time to protect me.
Now, as I work daily with the many problems that God’s people are going
through, I must be very careful not to develop those same calluses on my heart
and emotions. For if I do I will no longer have a heart to feel peoples’ pain as
Jesus did to effectively reach out. One of the dangers in this ministry is
keeping that balance.
Prayer – God guide me through the Holy Spirit to reach out with a heart
like yours. Never let me become callused and indifferent to the hurts of those I
deal with each day.
