The Bible uses many metaphors about life...one used regularly is that life is like a race. In every race there is a goal, usually a win light or checkered flag. Oh sure, there are other goals as well. Staying on the track, not blowing up, no flat tires sometimes just finishing!
In life there is a goal as well. The main goal is our relationship with God through Jesus Christ. And there are other goals: relationship goals, career goals, financial goals, etc. But finding perspective with all the goals is both important--and difficult.
It is difficult to stay encouraged, positive, and motivated when goals seem to be just beyond our reach. How do we just keep on keeping on? The scripture that comes to mind is in Philippines 3:12-14
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made complete, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
