“Good Morning”
“Good morning sunshine,” are
words many parents say to their children as they sheepishly wipe the sleep from
their eyes when first awakened. Mornings can bring many delightful prospects to
those who have experienced God throughout a life of faith.
It’s a new day. It’s light out of
the darkness. It’s new hope brightened by the dawns early light. It’s a fresh
renewing of faith each day. It’s a special kind of warmth that only comes from
the sun. It means yesterday is gone, (for some it may mean something needs to be
forgotten). After a good night’s sleep, we should be fully rested, and therefore
prepared to meet the new day.
“Awake, awake! Clothe yourself
with strength, O arm of the Lord”
(Isaiah 51:9).
In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests
before you and wait in expectation”
(Psalm 5:3)
But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for
you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble”
(Psalm 59:16).
“The morning is the
gate of the day, and should be well guarded with prayer. It is one end of the
thread on which the day’s actions are strung, and should be well knotted with
devotion. If we felt more of the majesty of life, we should be more careful of
its mornings. He who rushes from his bed to his business and without worship is
as foolish as though he had not put on his clothes, or washed his face, and
unwise as though he dashed into battle without arms or armor.”
(Charles
Haddon Spurgeon)
There is not one of
us who would enter into battle without armor. Nor should any of us go off to
work or school (or the races) without washing our face and checking ourselves
out in the mirror. But many of us rush into our day without taking time to look
into the mirror of God and His Word.
Each day holds
circumstances that will be better addressed if we’ve hedged our day with prayer,
devotion, and time alone with God before we set foot out the door. Let’s look
ourselves over: Put on Christ as we would put on our clothes. Let’s seize the
day in prayer knowing that our prayers invite God to walk through our day with
us.
A life hemmed in
prayer is less likely to unravel if we sow the Word into the good fabric of a
Spirit filled heart each morning. Have a good day my friends … says the
Almighty! I hope to see you again in the morning.
