Overcoming Your Giants

It seems that during the off season we are all going through battles in our lives. The enemy is working overtime to attack God's children. We are seeing attacks from financial to health related issues in our boat racing family.

But my God shall overcome all our needs. This is the day that the Lord has made, not the day that the devil has made.

We are over comers through Jesus Christ, says my bible.

Remember the story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17 David, while in his youth, fought a giant with only a sling shot and 5 smooth stones. However he had another weapon with him as well, he had the Lord.

Verse 46 in chapter 17 says, “This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel”.

When going through a battle in life we should carry 5 stones:

  1. The stone of the past:  Remember Gods marvelous works. Remember what God has already gotten us out of and through. 1st Chronicles 16:12 “Think of the wonderful works he has done, the miracles, and the judgments he handed down,”
  2. The stone of prayer:  Prayer is talking to God it’s that simple. God knows what we need; He is waiting to be asked. It’s called FAITH! Don’t face your problem without first going to prayer. Ephesians 6:18 says to “pray always”.  The victory prayer is found in Isaiah 26: 3-4, "Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH [is] everlasting strength."
  3. The stone of priority: The battle is not ours, it’s the Lord’s. 1st Samuel 17:45, “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.  David saw Goliath as a chance for God to "show off" to prove His word. See your giant or problem the same way. Give God a chance, let Him show off.
  4. The stone of Passion: When you are facing a giant, go through it not around it. David ran toward... not from his problem. Not because he was going to one day be king but because God saw his heart. God is able and willing to get you through your situation.

Receive the good report of the Lord and stand on it. We will always have giants in our lives until Jesus comes back for us. Your giant does not have to overcome you. We can have the same victory as David. Wake up in the morning praising God that you will overcome through Jesus Christ.
