New Year’s Change
As the year draws to a close,
and a new one looms on the horizon, I would like to pause and reflect on what
is important in the whole scheme of things.
What type of person earns our
respect? Those who win tough races or competitions stand out. Great leaders
who are capable of motivating people while still respecting those under their
authority are held in high esteem. We admire people with physical
disabilities and limitations who accomplish great things in spite of their
handicaps. These are the kinds of people to whom most of us look up.
But I can think of others who
are rarely mentioned. Such as the problem drinker who has kicked the habit
and lives a successful life as a recovering alcoholic. Or the person who has
experienced great pain, abuse and suffering who, with the right help, is able
to work through it and heal, then they lead a productive life and reach out
to others going through the same pain. And there’s the person with
destructive behaviors who changes direction and contributes to society rather
than taking from it. All of these are very important if we hope to change
our society for the better!
This year I hope we can see
more than short term resolutions. I pray for changed lives – change that can
only happen with God’s help. We are offered a completely new life if we are
willing to walk with Him.
